BATEAU NOIR DE SHLTR is the second location of the SHLTR brand.
As its name suggests, SHLTR has aimed to create spaces that serve as shelters—intimate places that hold a certain density of sensation.
This project, located at a street corner near Sokcho Beach on Korea’s eastern coast, is a bakery that reinterprets SHLTR’s identity through a softer and more sculptural form.
The guiding motif for this space is a black vessel.
Due to the constraints of the floorplan and the functional demands of a large kitchen, the circulation was organized around a single curving wooden wall that wraps the core of the space.
This wall evokes the sensation of walking alongside the hull of a ship, giving rhythm and mass to the interior.
Two cylindrical columns anchor the room and are wrapped in thick black rope, metaphorically recalling the mooring lines of a docked ship.
Between these columns, a long display counter stretches across the space, inside which a magnetic levitation module gently rotates the baked goods on display.
Above, a linear light fixture traces a subtle parabolic arc—like the signal light of a ship gliding across a quiet sea—casting a soft glow that illuminates the scene below.
바다와 검은배
BATEAU NOIR DE SHLTR는 SHLTR의 두 번째 공간이다. SHLTR는 '피난처(Shelter)'라는 이름처럼, 감각의 밀도를 담아내는 장소를 만들어온 브랜드다. 이번 프로젝트는 강원도 속초해수욕장 인근, 도로 모서리에 자리한 베이커리로, SHLTR의 정체성을 보다 부드러운 형상으로 확장하고자 기획된 공간이다.이곳의 주요한 모티브는 검은 선박이다. 제한된 평면 구성과 베이커리 주방의 넓은 면적 요구에 따라, 내부 동선은 하나의 커다란 덩어리를 감싸 도는 곡면 목재 벽을 중심으로 형성되었다. 이는 마치 선체의 측면을 따라 걷는 듯한 감각을 유도하며, 공간에 긴장감 있는 리듬을 부여한다.공간 안에는 두 개의 원형 기둥이 배치되어 있고, 이들은 검은 밧줄로 감싸져 있다. 이는 부두에 정박한 배의 닻줄을 은유하며, 공간의 중심을 고정하는 시각적 장치가 된다. 이 기둥 사이에는 긴 디스플레이 가구가 연결되어 있으며, 진열대 내부에는 자기부상 모듈을 활용해 빵이 천천히 회전하며 전시되도록 설계되었다. 진열대를 가로지르는 조명 라인은 미세한 포물선을 그리며 설치되어, 마치 밤바다를 항해하는 선박의 등을 연상시키듯 공간을 부드럽게 밝힌다.
