Located in a quiet residential neighborhood along Seongam-ro, Mapo-gu, STG+JW OFFICE is the first shared workspace of SPACETASKGROUP and jUSTWORK.
In search of the right place, the two studios toured countless rental properties before discovering a raw building that was most suitable to transform and make their own. The site offered an entire second floor above a coffee shop and a leather workshop on the ground level, with a woodworking studio in the basement. The long horizontal windows and the surrounding apartment landscaping created the impression of being surrounded by a forest when seated inside the office. With its simple geometry and generous ceiling height, the building allowed for a wide and open workspace once the existing ceiling was removed.
We demolished the partition wall that had divided the rental units and stripped away the entire ceiling to expose the structural frame. Layers of paint and plaster on the walls and the adhesive marks on the floor were carefully removed, restoring the raw concrete surface of the building.
At the center of the office, a metal storage unit was installed without touching the ceiling, maintaining a sense of openness. The outer walls were finished with cold-rolled steel panels, enabling pin-up work with magnets. Between the columns along the perimeter, metal shelves were inserted to display books, materials, and models. Indirect lighting was integrated into the perimeter beams, while semi-circular indirect fixtures above the work area provided stable, uniform illumination throughout the space.
STG+JW OFFICE
마포구 성암로의 한적한 주거지역에 위치한 STG+JW OFFICE는 Spacetaskgroup과 jUSTWORK가 함께 사용하는 첫 합동 오피스이다.
두 사무소는 적합한 장소를 찾기 위해 수많은 임대 공간을 답사한 끝에, 직접 고쳐 쓰기에 가장 알맞은 원석 같은 건물을 발견했다. 이곳은 1층에 커피숍과 가죽공방, 지하에 목공방이 자리하며, 2층 전체를 사용할 수 있는 조건이었다. 특히 가로로 긴 창 너머로 보이는 아파트 단지의 조경은 사무실 내부에 앉았을 때 마치 숲으로 둘러싸인 듯한 인상을 주었다. 단순하고 반듯한 건물 형태와 높은 층고는 기존 천정을 철거했을 때 더욱 개방적이고 확장된 공간감을 가능하게 했다.
우리는 두 개로 분리되어 있던 임대 공간의 가벽을 철거하고, 모든 천정을 들어내어 구조체를 드러냈다. 벽면을 덮고 있던 수차례의 페인트와 미장, 바닥에 남아 있던 본드 자국까지 제거하여 건축물 본래의 순수한 콘크리트 질감을 되찾았다.
사무공간 중앙에는 금속으로 제작한 창고를 배치했는데, 천장에 닿지 않도록 계획하여 큰 공간감을 유지하도록 했다. 외벽은 냉연강판으로 마감하여 자석을 활용한 핀업 작업이 가능하게 했으며, 기둥 사이마다 금속 선반을 설치해 책·재료·모형 등을 전시할 수 있도록 했다. 외벽 테두리보에는 간접조명을 심어 은은한 빛을 만들었고, 작업 공간 상부에는 반원형 간접조명을 더해 전체적인 조도를 안정적으로 확보하였다.
